AS Roma Champions of Europe* Finally!

Yes, you read that right. Granted, they are NOT the champion of the UEFA Champions League nor the UEFA Europa League (Not yet anyway). But rather the champion of the newly third tier competition UEFA Europa Conference League. Still, this is a big achievement for us as the last trophy we ever won was 14 years ago! Also, this is our first European trophy. Jose Mourinho. When he was announced as the new manager last year, expectations were high. He needed to bring us back where we belong! The Champions League! Started great with 6 wins in a row, but he told us Romanisti we haven't really achieved anything and basically kept us in check. Usually for us Romanisti, they cycle was if the team rack up wins we believed them to be the Scudetto contender, and when we lost we felt like they were fighting for relegation. It's that extreme. Then the defeat came. Against Hellas Verona, not long after we lost the Derby Della Capitale (Lazio), lost again against our big rival Juventus and then came the spanking by a team I'm not familiar with Bodo Glimt. 6-1! What a disaster!! Shouts of "Mourinho Out" began on the internet, but I and many others kept faith in him. If there's a man who'll lead us to glory, it is him! Mourinho adapted to the team after his favoured 4-2-3-1 didn't fit the team's style. Last season we were playing with 3-4-2-1. So, we reverted back to the 3-4-2-1 and sometimes it is even 3-5-2, 3-4-1-2 or 5-3-2. And boy, the team does improve after that. Granted we only improved 1 position than last season, but we always knew the quality of our squad isn't up there yet, Mourinho led us to the UECL glory in the end. With arguably the weakest Roma squad in decades! That's is quite a special achievement. Now these good players are becoming champions, which will raise their level of performance. Last season, despite our attractive football we failed to beat the top 6 sides. This season we managed to get our revenge on the home derby (Lazio), defeat Atalanta home and away, and we almost defeated Juventus for 70 minutes before our mentality collapsed. I am excited to see what our squad can achieve next season. I feel we need to build this success and continue to be a side always fighting for trophies. Grazie Mourinho for changing our mentality and Forza Roma!

Why Heracles? part 2

Due to popular demand I will start with Heracles' twelve labour journeys. First Labour The cowardly king orders Heracles to kill the Nemean Lion. While also hoping that Heracles would be killed by it. But you and me know that Heracles isn't that weak. He killed two snakes as a baby! By the Gods! Here's the catch, the Lion is invulnerable to all weapons. So he had to kill it with his bare hands. And guess what? He did it. He even skinned the Lion and wear it at all times as his cloak. When he returned to the king, he was so terrified at Heracles' appearances so he hid. Second Labour. Heracles had to kill the Hydra as shown as this picture over here. Do you think he made it? What were you thinking? Of course he did! But how? You and me know that when Hydra's head was dismembered two will grow at its place. So Heracles had a little help. After dismembering one of its head, his follower Iolaus managed to burn the wounds with fire so it won't grow again. So, Heracles...

2010 - The Death of World Cup?

World Cup usually excites a lot of people. People who usually didn't watch football, watched. It's that kind of magic. However, I think this year the trends are showing that's it's going to be one-boring-results-based-football. Why do you think? Let's analyse.. Marcello Lippi, Carlos Dunga, Raymond Domenech what do they have in common? Sure they are football managers. But when I saw the announcement of the provision squads for the World Cup, I was shocked to the least. Firstly, Lippi. Lippi of Italy didn't called up flair based players like: Cassano, Totti (don't want him to go anyway), Miccolli, or even Balotelli. Why is this important? This means the squad will be based on robot-types of football. There's no element of unpredictability amongst them. They will score 1 and then they will sit back and soak up the pressure a la Mourinho. Worrying? Secondly, Dunga. He also left out Ronaldinho. One of the creatives. Sure they still have Kaka and Robinho. But...

The World Cup Finals

After reading an article from Goal.com I realised something, the World Cup finals is just like an Champions League Finals! Let me elaborate: Looking at the players, I realised most of them are graduates from the famed academy of Ajax Amsterdam and FC Barcelona. Throughout the years Ajax have produced talents like Johan Cruyff, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert and Frank De Boer to name a few. In the current Holland squad there are Stekelenburg (who currently plays for Ajax), Van Der Wiel, Heitinga, Sneijder, Van Der Vaart, Huntelaar, Elia, De Jong and Babel. Although most of them are now playing for different clubs, they have all graduated from Ajax. Therefore, it is like an reunion to them. Whereas Spain has players mostly from Barcelona. Also most of the players in the squad are Catalans, not Spanish. Those who graduated from the Barcelona academy are: Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol, Gerrard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas and Pedro Rodriguez. Anot...
